Video Camera Operator

Jinny's Music Studio — San Jose, CA

Jinny's Music Studio is a recording, rehearsal, and event space in San Jose featuring a Steinway Model B, a professional recording chain, 4K multi-camera capability, and an intimate recital hall seating up to 50. We film performances, recording sessions, recitals, and commercial content in-house, and we're looking for a skilled camera operator to join us on a per-shoot basis.

Role Overview
You'll operate cameras on shoots at our studio — multi-camera coverage of live performances and recording sessions, plus planned commercial and promotional shoots working under a director. This is an on-set operator role: framing, movement, and coverage are yours; creative direction comes from the shoot lead. We are shooting a commercial near the end of this month and need a local operator on site to shoot takes based on our producers vision.
Responsibilities
Operate cameras (4K) on multi-camera shoots of live music performances, recording sessions, recitals, and eventsExecute a director's shot list with precision — including long, held takes where framing, focus, and stability matter more than coverage volumeFrame and reframe live, unscripted performance in real time without disrupting the room or the performersAssist with camera, lens, and lighting setup and teardownHandle media responsibly — card offloads, file naming, and backups before leaving a shootWork quietly and professionally around active recording sessions where noise discipline is mandatory

We do not have a stabilizer. Big bonus if you have a stabilizer.
Qualifications
Demonstrated experience operating cameras on live performance, music, or event shoots — situations with no second takeStrong manual camera skills: exposure, focus pulling, and composition in mixed/low-light stage environmentsComfortable taking direction and working as part of a small crewExperience filming around live audio recording (quiet operation, cable discipline) strongly preferredMulti-cam or live-switch experience a plusMust be locally available in the San Jose / South Bay area for on-site shoots
Schedule & Compensation
Per-shoot freelance basis with a flexible, as-needed schedule — evenings and weekends common, as shoots follow session and event bookings. Compensation by day or half-day rate, depending on experience. Please include your rate expectations when applying.
