General Description Speech therapists, also known as speech and language therapists or speech-language pathologists, are highly trained health care professionals who will treat patients with speech and language disorders. Assist Director of Patient Services to formulate agency policies and procedures for speech therapy. Some, such as brain injury, cerebral palsy, cleft palate, organic hearing impairment or those that result from a stroke, are physical in nature. The therapist must be observant, in order to assess patients, and flexible in developing unique treatment regimens for each patient. As patient progress is often slow, patience is a plus, as are compassion and a sincere desire to help.
