Senior Animation Director - Feature Films

Our client, a highly respected animation studio, is seeking an experienced and visionary Senior Animation Director to lead creative teams on exciting feature film projects in Grand Rapids, Michigan, US . This is a unique opportunity for an artist with a profound understanding of storytelling, character performance, and the technical aspects of animation production to shape the visual narrative of compelling films. The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree or equivalent extensive professional experience in animation, film, or a related arts field, along with a minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in animation, including significant directorial or supervisory roles. You should possess an exceptional portfolio showcasing your ability to direct dynamic character performances, conceptualize visually stunning sequences, and guide animators to achieve the highest artistic standards. Responsibilities include overseeing the animation pipeline from pre-production through to final delivery, collaborating closely with directors, producers, and other department leads to ensure artistic vision is realized, and motivating and mentoring the animation team to deliver outstanding results. You will be responsible for setting animation quality benchmarks, providing constructive feedback, and problem-solving creative and technical challenges that arise during production. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a deep passion for animation and filmmaking. A comprehensive understanding of animation software and techniques, including 3D animation, motion capture, and rendering, is required. Key Responsibilities: Direct and supervise animation teams for feature film projects. Guide character performance, blocking, and final animation. Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to animators. Oversee the animation pipeline and troubleshoot production issues. Develop and maintain shot breakdowns and animation schedules. Work closely with modeling, rigging, lighting, and VFX departments. Maintain a strong understanding of animation principles and software. Contribute to the overall creative development of projects.
