Our client is looking for a distinguished Lead Film Critic to be based in Boise, Idaho, US . This pivotal role requires an individual with an extensive knowledge of cinema history, contemporary film trends, and a sophisticated analytical ability. The Lead Film Critic will be responsible for shaping the editorial voice and direction of film coverage, overseeing a team of contributors, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, engaging, and insightful reviews and features. You will attend press screenings, film festivals, and industry events, cultivating relationships with filmmakers, publicists, and distributors. The ability to write compellingly for a diverse audience, from casual moviegoers to cinephiles, is paramount. This position demands a strong editorial eye, a keen understanding of narrative structure and cinematic techniques, and the capacity to generate original content ideas that resonate with readers. You will also be involved in developing content strategies for digital platforms and social media to expand reach and engagement. Key Responsibilities:
Write in-depth reviews and critical analyses of new film releases across various genres. Lead and mentor a team of film reviewers and freelance contributors. Develop and implement content strategies for film coverage across print and digital platforms. Attend film premieres, festivals, and press junkets to conduct interviews and gather insights. Edit and proofread content from the film review team for accuracy, style, and clarity. Research and pitch original feature articles, essays, and opinion pieces related to cinema. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of current film industry developments and cultural contexts. Represent the publication at industry events and build strong professional relationships. Ensure timely publication of all film-related content. Contribute to the overall editorial direction and quality of arts coverage. Qualifications:
Master's degree in Film Studies, Literature, Journalism, or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of experience in film criticism or arts journalism, with a significant portfolio of published work. Demonstrated leadership experience in managing editorial teams or projects. Deep knowledge of film history, theory, and international cinema. Exceptional writing, editing, and analytical skills, with a distinctive critical voice. Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience with content management systems (CMS) and digital publishing platforms. Strong networking and communication skills. Passion for film and a commitment to thoughtful critique.
