Directors’ Assistant

Sony Pictures Animation Los Angeles, California

Sony Pictures Animation is hiring a Directors' Assistant to work on-site in Los Angeles, California. This role sits at the center of feature animation production, supporting two directors by managing their schedules, communications, and creative materials across every stage of the filmmaking process. It suits a production professional with an eye for detail and enough familiarity with animation studio workflow to anticipate what a director needs before they ask.

About the Role
The Directors' Assistant works directly within the creative production structure at Sony Pictures Animation, supporting directors across the studio's feature animation slate. Day to day, this means coordinating everything from creative reviews and recording sessions to script distribution and travel logistics, while staying in close contact with production management and department teams. The role requires someone who can hold a lot of moving parts without losing track of any of them.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the directors' calendar across a busy feature animation production schedule, coordinating creative reviews, screenings, recording sessions, and meetings in partnership with production management.
Attend production and creative meetings, take accurate notes, and distribute approved follow-up items and action points to the relevant departments and collaborators.
Serve as a primary point of contact between the directors, producers, studio departments, and external parties, using sound judgment about what information moves where and when.
Maintain organized files of scripts, story materials, reference packages, and presentation decks, tracking revisions and handling distribution with appropriate discretion.
Provide creative support including reading and summarizing material, gathering visual research, and assembling reference materials for story and production discussions.
Coordinate travel arrangements, prepare detailed itineraries, and process expense reports accurately and on schedule.

What You Bring

2 to 5 years of administrative or production office experience, with a preference for candidates who have supported a filmmaker or creative executive directly.
Previous experience in an animation studio or film production environment is strongly preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including professional phone and email handling across a studio environment.
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, shifting schedules, and sensitive creative and personnel information with discretion.
Comfort working across tools used in feature film production offices, including scheduling software, document management systems, and video conferencing platforms.

Why This Role
Sony Pictures Animation has built a reputation for giving filmmakers genuine creative authority, which makes the directors' assistant position meaningful work rather than pure administration. Supporting directors at a studio with an active feature animation slate puts you inside the creative decision-making process at a level most production roles do not offer. For someone building a career in animation or film production, this kind of proximity to the directing process is hard to find.
