Responsibilities

The programming team serves as the nucleus of MulanIFF, and turns our artistic and curatorial visions into engaging and unique programming of our annual festival and year-round events. In the role of Assistant Programmer, you will be responsible for forming an impeccable experience for our audience. From selecting films to planning post-screening Q&A, your curatorial vision will help shape the future of pan-Chinese cinemas. Reporting to Artistic Director, you will work on:

Managing the festival submission process and organizing submission materialsLiaising with filmmakers, distributors, and international sales to expand programming opportunitiesIdentifying outreach opportunities to connect new audiences with emerging filmmakersIdentifying potential presenting partners for specific films and programmesWriting and organizing all publicity information and materials related to films and screeningsIntroducing films to the audience and hosting Q&As with filmmakers

Demonstrated interest, knowledge, or academic background in Film/Media Studies or other humanities disciplines such as literature, fine arts, and philosophyA curatorial vision that is aligned with the direction of MulanIFFWorking knowledge of emerging and established filmmakers, and key players in the Asian film industriesDemonstrated research skills and organizational skillsExcellent professional communication skills in English and/or Chinese

This is a volunteer position, with a minimum weekly commitment of 8 hours during peak season (March, April, and May) and 5 hours during our festival season and other time (January, February, June, July, and August to December).
