DISCLAIMER: The following listing is an unpaid position, mainly for filmmakers who want a new experience out of being a part of this short film. This short film will be a non-profit recreation not intended to make a profit after being released.
For any additional inquiries, feel free to email me [ramjasjason06@] under the subheading Superman Short Film Inquiries.
Hello aspiring filmmakers! Apply today for the main director of photography behind my Superman short film! This short film is a recreation of a scene from Superman (2025) between Clark Kent and Lois Lane. The scene takes place in Lois' apartment as her and Clark conduct a mock interview before things go south fairly quickly. The script is available online, but I also have a copy of the specific scene that'll be utilized in this recreation.
To clarify, this project is being run by a first-time filmmaker (19-years-old) trying to make a name for himself. As the main actor, this will be my first official time being on any set with a crew, actor, and other members of a film set. As such, my inexperience will be shared with anyone who applies. Whether you're also a first-time filmmaker or someone who's worked in the industry before, you're all more than welcome to apply! However, specifically for cinematographer, I'd greatly prefer that you have prior film experience being on a set and working with tight deadlines before submitting your application.
The details listed below describe your main responsibility onset and what you'll offer for being a part of this project.
-------------------
Responsibilities
As director of photography, you'll work in tandem with the director, gaffer, actors (myself included), and crew alike to make this scene come to life. Your role will involve, but not be limited to, establishing the visual language of the short, maintaining consistency across this medium, handling framing, camera movement, exposure, and any other technicalities that occur in front of/behind the camera. With the creative vision, skill, and technique you possess, this project can be brought to life in ways that are similar to the original film.
Here are some expected responsibilities outside of being the main cinematographer on set that are expected of all applicants:
Maintain a safe and work-friendly environment.Dedicate yourself to the material as much as possible.Be creatively intuned with the script and open to new ideas from the crew.Conduct yourself with respect towards the actors, crew, and other set members.
Filming
The deadline for this application is June 20th. By that time, I will decide who the right cinematographer is via email, LinkedIn, or a Zoom meeting depending on your applications.
I'd like principal photography to begin in July, with shooting happening on the weekends due to my summer schedule.
Due to the scene taking place in an apartment-style complex, we'll need to find a location near the University of Central Florida for shooting to take place in. The producer will do their best to find a location suitable for the team to film in by July.
Qualifications
This position is open to all talent that's willing to dedicate themselves entirely to making this the best recreation it can be. For cinematographer, however, I'd highly recommend submitting the following aspects of your profile. These are a solid baseline of recommended qualifications to help you stand out.
A love for the Superman character, mythos, and media (movies, comics, TV shows).ResumePortfolioWebsite (optional)Social media (optional)
---------------
As a final note, this is a passion project that is simply being made from a desire to pursue filmmaking. I only expect filmming to take place across 1-2 weekends, so I'd like to make the most out of this experience. Thank you all for your time! Good luck and I wish you all the best of luck with your applications!
